second lives of objects
have you ever taken an old wine bottle and turned it into a vase?
or used it to hold your bangles on your dresser?
growing up, my house was full of these tiny acts of imagination.
my mom had this habit of looking at the most random things and seeing potential in the ordinary.
pista shells would suddenly become wall decor. old cds would get glued onto a rusty almirah and turn it into…just something honestly, but nothing was ever truly a waste. she would collect old sweet boxes, wedding cards, even toilet paper rolls and keep it for “future use”.
honestly, the eldest daughter in me would get really exhausted of always having an unkempt house with no organisation and random clutter but nothing was ever really “waste” in our house. everything was just… waiting for its next life.
and as an adult, it made sense to me
i love how an object that seemed so ordinary, almost invisible, could suddenly feel special again. like it had been chosen for something. like it had been given a little purpose, a little home.
it’s such a small thing, honestly. so simple. but there’s something deeply tender about it.
because when you think about it, that’s such a human instinct, this urge to take something forgotten, something random, something that doesn’t seem to belong anywhere… and give it meaning again.
give it beauty.
give it a story.
give it somewhere to belong.
people might call it sustainability or diy culture, but to me it always felt like something softer than that. almost like love.
because it takes a certain kind of heart to look at something lifeless and still see possibility in it. like it doesn’t have to end here
and maybe that’s why these little transformations always stayed with me.
because somewhere in them is this quiet, comforting reminder that very few things are truly useless.
sometimes they’re just waiting for someone to notice them, to look at them a little longer than everyone else did and give them a home again.

Such a beautiful perspective! Giving a purpose to something as ordinary as a cardboard box or a bottle and turning into something extraordinary. Aren't we like that too? When we choose to change ourselves...from an ordinary person to someone extraordinary.
Loved how you captured the beauty of reusing old things!! Srishtidard gang btw 🫶
